Anti-aging treatmentsEach anti-aging treatment has its key – one or more ingredients that fight the signs of aging and improve skin‘s appearance. While most of the results are temporary, their regular application can help maintain skin’s good health and delay other signs of aging.

Oils, vitamins, antioxidants, proteins and many more, these anti-aging ingredients have different roles. Decode the principle behind your anti-aging treatments formula:

    Water & Moisture

    - Water is not just a treatment, but probably the best anti aging ingredient. It’s very important to keep skin hydrated from the inside and maintain hydration and minimize water loss from the outside. What’s the best approach? There are two types of hydrators: emollients (they soften and hydrate the skin, mostly used on dehydrated skin which lacks water in the outer layer and not used for dryness associated with aging ) and humectants (they attract water in the cells). Glycerine, for example, is a great humectant, a water-binding ingredient, used in creams to attract and retain moisture to the skin.

    Natural Oils

    - Natural, plant derived oils are the base of many anti-aging treatments and creams. With emollient properties, they prevent water loss. They shouldn’t be used on oily skin. However once skin ages and dries off, it needs additional hydration and oils provide nourishment, soften skin and lock in moisture efficiently. Well hydrated skin means healthy skin that is able to protect itself from damage.

    Vitamin C

    - Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radical damage. On the skin, it improves elasticity because it stimulates collagen synthesis, and it’s well known that collagen is responsible for skin’s elasticity, integrity and youthful appearance. Collagen production decreases with age so it’s necessary to always encourage its production.

    Proteins

    - Collagen: the skin protein responsible for maintaining elasticity by binding water molecules and preventing the cellular water loss; collagen fibres provide support and strength to the skin. Their loss can be compensated with collagen in creams, or by stimulating the body to produce more collagen on its own.
    Botanicals and Fruit Enzymes:

    - Nature has its resources, like ingredients that have regenerating, nourishing, soothing and moisturizing properties; fruit enzymes are particularly suitable for anti-aging treatments because they are efficient exfoliators. Such an enzyme is bromelain, extracted from pineapple.

Why exfoliate? With age, the top layer of skin tends to get dry and cell turn-over is slowed down. The old, dead skin cells don’t shed as fast as they used to and skin looks uneven, rough and dull. Exfoliation removes the dead-skin layer and makes skin appear healthier and smoother. Skin regenerates faster and moisturizing agents penetrate the skin much easier.

    Coenzyme Q10

    - It’s an enzyme and antioxidant that occurs naturally in the skin; its presence decreases with age. It has revitalizing properties for the cells and the entire body. Frequently recommended in anti-aging supplements, it works well in skincare formulas and supports elasticity and youthfulness.

    Hydroquinone

    – A lightening agent often used in anti aging treatments, designed to fade dark spots related to age, scars etc. It is considered the highest performing “lightening agent” available on the market, although there are alternative agents such as Kojic Acid or Mulberry Extract.

    Retinol

    – A form of vitamin A and just like another similar derivate called Retinyl palmitate, Retinol is essential for skin’s regeneration and supports cell proliferation. Also used in acne treatments because of its ability to clear pores and keep skin clear of dead skin cell build-up.
