There are thousands of products on the market designed to make your skin, hair and nails feel wonderful but what about more natural alternatives? Olive oil has been used regularly for beauty purposes since its creation and it can form a valuable part of a modern day beauty regime. Below are out top five tips for using olive oil in your personal beauty regime.

    1. Face Masks

Olive oil can be combined with other ingredients to create a regenerative and moisturising face mask. One of the most popular face masks includes a combination of olive oil, egg yolks and lemon juice. The olive oil is hugely moisturising whilst the lemon juice is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. The mask should be applied to a clean face and left in place for up to 10 minutes. Rinsing it off with warm and then cold water will help ensure pores are nicely closed afterwards. It’s a good choice for dry or normal skin types looking for an extra boost.

    2. Hair Treatment

Treating your hair with olive oil will leave it looking shiny and glossy. Creating a hair treatment is easy and it’s quite similar to that you’d use on your skin. Once again you simply need olive oil, egg yolks and lemon juice but it needs to be left on your hair for around 15 minutes before shampooing and conditioning. It will add shine and softness to your hair. You can alternatively simply apply neat olive oil for around an hour and then wash as normal for quick and easy shiny softness.

    3. Makeup Remover

Olive oil is a fantastic, easy makeup remover. Perfect as an alternative to your usual choice or when you’ve run out it provide a gentle remover which also moisturises the skin. Additional nourishment is another bonus if you opt for natural olive oil. The oil can simply be applied via the usual cotton wool pad method and wipe gently. You can repeat it as often as you need and always remember to cleanse the skin afterwards.

    4. Body Lotion

Many people have swapped all their different expensive body lotions for a simple olive oil solution. Nourishing to the skin as well as moisturising it does as good a job at keeping your skin naturally cleansed and moisturised. It’s perfect for applying straight after a shower or bath and gives the skin a baby soft feel.

    5. Bath

This isn’t the most common option but if you really get into using olive oil then why not take a bath in it? Of course the whole bath won’t be oil – that’d be expensive and not give you the results you were looking for. Instead just 5 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to each bath and your skin will thank you for it. Other people prefer to coat their body in olive oil first before getting into the bath and the same effects will be had each time – super soft, smooth skin.

For soft skin and silky hair natural olive oil is truly one of the best ingredients there is.
