• Five Foods for Healthy Skin

Healthy Skin FoodsSkin care isn’t just about buying the best skin care products  possible. It’s about making lifestyle choices that make you healthy as a person. After all, the skin is the body’s largest organ, so if you’re healthy, then your skin will be healthy as well. That said, there are some specific foods that you can eat that will be good for you and good for your skin. Here are five “foods for skin care” that can help take your skin from average to glowing!

    Healthy Skin Food: Pomegranate

While many fruits are going to be beneficial to your skin in terms of providing antioxidants to fight free radicals and improve skin’s appearance as well as to provide hydration that lasts longer than simply drinking a glass of water, pomegranate has some very specific skin care benefits (in addition to simply being yummy). In specific, pomegranate contains the antioxidant flavonoid that’s called anthocyanin. This antioxidant flavonoid helps to strengthen the blood vessels while providing nutrients to the skin. Pomegranate has proven to be a particularly effective part of an effective acne treatment  program.

Healthy Skin Food: Low Fat Dairy Products

Particularly if your skin care concern is anti aging or anti wrinkle skin care treatments, then you should be concerned with how quickly your skin regenerates. After all, you want the youngest, healthiest skin possible on the surface. The key to rapid skin regeneration is vitamin A. While carrots and other vegetables contain vitamin A, not all bodies can process the enzymes in those sources to usable vitamin A. However, all bodies can absorb the vitamin A found in low fat dairy products.

    Healthy Skin Food: Green Tea

The benefits of green tea extend well beyond having healthy skin. However, there’s a reason that green tea is such a common ingredient in skin care products. Green tea has an extremely high concentration of antioxidants and vitamins (including vitamin C, vitamin D and even vitamin K). It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce redness and puffiness in your complexion.

Healthy Skin Food: Foods Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids, which are  found in abundance in salmon, halibut, walnuts, soy and flax seeds, have been shown to not only reduce clogged pores and subsequently acne breakouts but also reduce inflammatory agents that can cause dry, red and damaged skin. There’s even evidence of Omega-3 fatty acids helping to reduce skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dandruff.

    Healthy Skin Food: Whole Grains

Whole grains are rich in essential B vitamins. B vitamins help to regulate the displacement of dead skin cells and the growth of new skin cells, as well as help to strengthen the surface of the skin.

Skin care products are an important part of any healthy skin regimen. However, what you eat  does matter, too! Eat a healthy skin diet and your skin will reward you with a healthy, beautiful glow.
