• Show some love to your skin on Valentines Day

3 loving ways to pamper your skin

Whether you’re spending this Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart, with your friends or simply alone (in the company of a good book and some wine!), don’t forget to show some love to your skin as well!  Of course, you do that every day. But on this festive day, you can spice up your beauty routine a little with some unusual ingredients that your skin will love and will feel like nothing else you’ve tried before.

Give your skin a … milk bath!

It was Cleopatra’s secret to perfect skin, so why not make it yours as well? It is incredibly simple to set up a milk bath and you will feel the results instantly. You can either buy milk bath powder or use 2 full cups of whole milk added to the warm bath water.  Optionally, add one cup honey, Epsom salts or essential oils. Soak in for up to 20 minutes to allow the lactic acids to remove the dead skin and the natural oils to hydrate intensely.

Sweeten your face with a …chocolate mask!

It might not look very appealing, but isn’t the process less important than the results? On the other hand, the smell is delicious! The benefits of raw chocolate for the skin are widely recognized due to its high content of antioxidants, and high-end spas always offer chocolate facial treatments to their customers.Of course, this is not the chocolate you buy at the store, but rather a basic, raw formula without the sugar, milk or additives.

To make your simplified chocolate mask at home, mix one tablespoon cocoa with a tablespoon of honey. Spread all over your face like any regular mask for 15 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water. Optionally, if you have breakouts, you can add ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon to the mix.  Cinnamon has amazing anti-bacterial and anti-microbial benefits and will help speed up healing of breakouts and scars.

Pucker up for a … lip scrub!

You exfoliate your body, your face, so why not exfoliate your lips? Using a lip scrub will remove the dead skin cells and smooth the lips to perfection.  Use brown sugar (coconut sugar is a great alternative) and mix equal amounts of sugar and coconut oil in a small recipient. Additionally you can mix in your favorite aromatic herbs: rosemary and cinnamon make great additions. For an extra nourishing boost, add a bit of honey.

Rub your lips with the mixture for a minute, rinse with water then dab a bit of coconut oil to hydrate. You can store the scrub in your fridge for later uses.
